"Sometimes things happen... moments cannot be controlled by us... we flow unknowingly into a storm..."
- Avijeet Das
One will never believe that during this photoshoot, we got caught in a storm: rain, thunder, hail, and lighting.
The day was planned, the outfits selected, and the location chosen. It was one of those photoshoots that had been long anticipated, every detail carefully considered, with dreams of capturing beauty and light woven into every frame. But sometimes, as life has a way of reminding us, not everything unfolds as we imagine. Sometimes, things happen… moments slip beyond our control… and before we know it, we find ourselves flowing unknowingly into a storm.
"I don't just wish you rain, Beloved - I wish you the beauty of storms."
- John Geddes
As we arrived, the clouds were already gathering, thickening in the sky. We felt the wind pick up, its steady hum turning into something sharper, something that spoke of change. A whisper of what was to come. There’s a quote that captures it so perfectly: “The footsteps of the storm are the most compassionate part of the storm! Before the storm comes with all its might, it sends you hard breezes and warns you!”

- Mehmet Murat ildan
And indeed, there it was—the gentle warning, the hard breezes swirling around us. Part of me felt the tug to stop, to turn around and reschedule. Yet, there was an even stronger tug to press forward, to trust that somehow beauty could still be found, even if it meant facing what was coming.
We began, capturing those first frames as the light danced through darkening clouds. For a moment, it felt like time had paused, like we were in this surreal place where beauty and storm met, a place where the ordinary became something sacred. Each click of the camera was a reminder of why we were there—to capture something bigger than ourselves, something that spoke of beauty, fashion, and faith even in the face of uncertainty.
"With inner strength, the soul can be still in the storm."
- Lailah Gifty Akita
Then it came.
The rain began as a gentle mist, but it quickly grew stronger. The thunder rolled in, its sound deep and mighty, vibrating through our hearts. Drops turned to pellets of hail, tapping against our skin, each one a reminder of the power around us. Lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating the world for a split second with such fierce clarity. We were caught in it—rain, thunder, hail, and lightning, the full force of the storm unleashed.
In those moments, it felt as if the world was both crashing down and opening up all at once. It was terrifying, yet strangely, there was also something deeply calming about it. There we stood, drenched and exposed, yet anchored by something unseen, something unbreakable.
Faith.
Faith.
It’s easy to talk about faith when skies are clear and the path is easy. But in that storm, faith became something tangible, something we could feel in the marrow of our bones. In those moments, it wasn’t just a word or a sentiment; it was a lifeline. It was the choice to stand firm, to breathe beauty into the chaos, and to hold fast to the hope that there is purpose in the storm.
Because sometimes, storms reveal a strength within us we didn’t know we had. Sometimes, they strip away everything unimportant, leaving only what matters most. They remind us that while we may not be able to control the storm, we can choose how we face it.
By the time the storm eased, we were soaked, our hair and clothes clinging to us. But as I looked through the camera lens, I realized we had captured something deeper than any planned photoshoot could have created. Each image held a story of resilience, of the courage to stand in the storm and breathe beauty into it. It was raw, honest, and so much more powerful than we could have imagined.
This shoot taught me that life, like faith, isn’t always about waiting for the storm to pass. Sometimes, it’s about choosing to stand in the middle of it, breathing beauty and courage into each moment, and trusting that, as chaotic as it may seem, we’re being held by something greater than the storm itself.
As we packed up to leave, that quote echoed in my heart once more: “The footsteps of the storm are the most compassionate part of the storm!” Indeed, sometimes the storm comes not to harm us, but to strip away the unnecessary, to reveal our true strength, and to remind us of the beauty we can create, even in its midst.
